Show Information

What do you get to do? Cub Scouts will have the opportunity to learn and do the activities to fulfill their requirements for their Geology Belt Loop and Cub Scout Academics Pin. Webelos Cub Scouts will have the opportunity to learn and do the activities to fulfill their requirements for their Geology Belt Loop and Geologist Activity Badge (Pin). It is also important that the Scouts have fun and enjoy the event.  Tiger Scouts have attended this event before, but many had difficulties.

Cost? No additional costs above admission. Free for Scouts in uniform (Class A).

Does your pack or den need to sign up? Yes, because we will base the supplies and scheduling according to the number of scouts that have registered. All scouts will have to be accompanied by appropriate adults at all times.  It is preferred that scouts are signed up by at least the Den level.  This will help to have all the scouts in the group be in the same session.

Why are we doing this? We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational society. We offer 3 monthly meetings open to the public with informative topics. We have provided many educational scholarships over the years. We provide instructors and equipment for lapidary classes to the public in both Donelson and Tullahoma. We travel to schools and other youth events to share and educate. We have worked with the Scouts in other events through the years. We would like to reach more youth and offer them the opportunity to learn more about the wonders of the world around them.

How long does it take? Expect to spend a minimum of 2 hours, and most will probably want to spend at least 3 to 4 hours at the event.  Plan on being at the site at least 30 minutes early.  Lines to get into the building can get long at busy times.  One of the Webelos requirements is to visit a Rock Show, so they need some extra time for this requirement.

Can we stay longer? We would like for you to come early and stay late.  There is a lot to see and do.

How does the program work? The program will work the same as last year.  Each preregistered group will register at the front ticket booth area at their appointed time.  Sessions start approximately every hour with consecutive sessions actually possibly overlapping.  After registering, the group will receive their materials to be used for the requirements.  The group leaders will receive instructions, support information for the requirements, and a check off sheet to check off the requirements for the scouts in their group.  Each scout will have a workbook and other materials. Activities and exhibits on the show floor will be used complete the requirements.  The group leaders will use the information provided to assist their youth.

What do the Scouts need to bring? Each Scout should come in uniform.  Each Scout and adult leader must also have a writing surface, and pencils.

When will the scouts receive their achievement awards? We do not actually sign off the requirements for each scout, or present the awards.  These will both be done by the Scout's Scouting Leaders and/or parents.  The actual belt loops, badges, and pins are not provided by Mid-Tennessee Gem & Mineral Society, Inc.
