The MTSU Department of Geosciences Mineral, Gem, and Fossil Museum officially opened in September 2005. This museum was created by MTSU Professor Dr. Albert E. Ogden, who now servers as the Museum's curator. The Mid-Tennessee Gem and Mineral Society, through the leadership of Lewis Elrod, has helped with the creation of this museum, and provided many of the specimens on display at the museum. The museum provides a great educational resource by displaying specimens according to their classifications. This museum is used by MTSU students, but is also open to the general public.
